My business journey through business began when I was just 17. Growing up, my Dad always dreamed of owning his own meat market and running it with his family. When I was just graduating high school, that dream came true for my Dad and he sold his house and took 18 years of equity and started Tony’s Meats and Markets, which to this day is successful in several locations in the Denver Metro area. In my 38 years and growth of the business, my journey took me through not only every department in the retail store, but each and every division in the company business office and executive team. I developed experience in so many areas over the years:
As you can see, I am not afraid to jump in with both feet.
The retail food business is a TOUGH business. Competition is everywhere, not just grocery stores, but fast food, casual style restaurants and such. Food is everywhere, and in this industry, you have to work hard to consistently exceed customer expectations and to stand out. After 38 years, I was ready for something different. Something that did not keep me at work 60 plus hours a week. Something that did not keep me in a state of chronic stress and continue to contribute to insulin resistance, elevated silent inflammation, brain fog, severe anxiety including panic attacks and uncontrollable weight gain.
Late 2016, I received an e-mail that was sent to various business owners that asked if we knew anyone who could serve as Executive Director of a non-profit animal sanctuary called Zoology Foundation, located in Larkspur. I thought, “What about me?” I immediately replied. I landed the job! Now all I have to do is tell my family I am leaving the family business, yikes!
I had a great time leading the foundation and it’s amazing team as we opened the humane education program, introduce basic business systems, start a volunteer program, rezone the property and many other things that I never would have thought I would experience, including helping load and haul 2000# bulls and 700# pigs in a trailer to Fort Collins to see the vet, whatever it takes! What a rewarding place to land as I took the journey to put my body back together as I was beginning my professional and personal transformation. I was already 1 year into my classes for Master Nutrition Therapist and now I could spend more time studying WHY our bodies work the way they do. See, I am a why person and if I know why I should do something, I am more likely to do it.
What have I learned about myself??? I love studying about our amazing bodies and minds. We are fascinating creations! I appreciate all it does for me and I want to give it better in return. Through performing better for my body, it performs better for me. Very symbiotic relationship we have with our vessel of life. I love seeing people expand their knowledge and apply it at their desired pace. Change is not easy, but I am here to tell you it is do-able and it does not happen overnight. My journey was a long one and one I am still on but one worth taking. I get it, I can help!
Through consistent little steps of “better,” it compounds; and over time, before you know it, you are achieving excellence!
I specialize in ailments related to Metabolic Insulin Resistance Syndrome (aka Metabolic Syndrome) which include insulin resistance, diabetes, high blood pressure, out of whack cholesterol, heart related events and weight loss. A growing waistline and anxiety can be either the culprit or a side effect of some of these issues. From experience, I know it’s better to get ahold of it before it gets ahold of you!
What I can bring is my experience and the ability to listen and start you in a place that is comfortable for YOU! I have a full understanding of how difficult change is but if you truly want change, I am here to help you improve your situation and achieve your goals. If you are stuck, want to grow, need help getting to the root of issues, whatever the situation…let’s do it together! I am ready to hear your story and looking forward to meeting you and taking this journey with you.
Oh, and by the way, the fact that I spent 38 years in the specialty food business is a bonus, as an ex-caterer, I know how to make food taste good and how to get the most out of your time in the kitchen without feeling like a prisoner to it! I understand how important food is to the individual and family. I believe that if it takes longer to cook it than to eat, it just might not be worth it!
I look forward to hearing from you!
